The Library Space as Community Commons

The Institute for Research on Labor and Employment (formerly the Institute of Industrial Relations) has fully renovated its Library. The new Library Commons mirrors the “homey” feel of IRLE's historic landmark building, while advancing a new array of digital and traditional library services. The Library’s print collections have been moved to the rear of the first floor, and also to the lower level of 2521 Channing Way. This has freed approximately 2400 square feet, in which new offices for two library staff members and a new circulation counter have been introduced. The offices will enable the staff to work effectively while the remainder of the space becomes more devoted to public activities in support of research.
